CARING FOR JEWELLERY

Kakizaki jewellery is crafted using semi-precious stones, beads, crystals, metals, chains and other embellishments. Most of our jewellery is constructed by hand, and you may notice variation in the colour, size and/or pattern of some beads.

Please take care when wearing your Kakizaki jewellery, as our pieces are very delicate. If they are dropped or mishandled, stones may fall out or embellishments may break. Kakizaki cannot take responsibility for any breakages that occur through mishandling.

Kakizaki jewellery is crafted using a variety of metal and plating. Our non-precious chains are usually crafted from steel or brass. Unless specified, the rose gold, silver and gold components we use are plated colours. All plating of chains, earring hooks and stems are nickel free.

Individual raw materials on Kakizaki jewellery will vary from piece to piece.

CARING FOR 925 STERLING SILVER JEWELLERY

Sterling silver requires more frequent and careful attention than other metals to address its natural tarnishing process.

  • Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place in a soft pouch
  • Avoid pulling or catching components.
  • We recommend that you remove your jewellery before showering, sleeping, intense exercise or swimming-chemicals found in chlorinated water, as well as the salt in sea water and sweat will encourage tarnishing.
  • Avoid exposing your jewellery directly to perfumes, soap, abrasive chemicals and cosmetics. It’s best to wait until perfumes and cosmetics are completely dry before putting your jewellery on.
  • Blackening on the skin may be easily removed by washing with warm soapy water.
  • A polishing cloth should be used on silver pieces to restore shine and remove tarnishing and residue. You can also remove blackening from areas around settings and hard to reach places by using a toothbrush with warm soapy water. It’s important to then rinse your piece with water and dry it immediately.
  • For your plated sterling silver jewellery, you may also use a cloth but it’s important to do so gently. Over-polishing will eventually degrade the plated surface. Should your plated pieces tarnish or need cleaning you can also use a toothbrush with warm soapy water, rinsing your piece afterwards and drying it immediately.

CARING FOR FASHION JEWELLERY

The majority of our fashion jewellery is made from brass, and may include other base alloys such as steel, zinc and copper. These pieces also incorporate a wide range of materials including glass, resins, acetate, semi-precious stones, enamel work and Swarovski Crystals.

  • Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place in a pouch.
  • Avoid pulling or catching components.
  • We recommends that you remove your jewellery before showering, sleeping, intense exercise or swimming-chemicals found in chlorinated water, as well as the salt in sea water and sweat will encourage tarnishing.
  • Avoid exposing your jewellery directly to perfumes, soap, abrasive chemicals and cosmetics. It’s best to wait until perfumes and cosmetics are completely dry before putting your jewellery on.
  • Ensure your jewellery is never exposed to extreme heat or prolonged contact with water-this can affect the integrity of your pieces and cause stones to come loose.
  • Clean metal and stones using a damp, non-abrasive cloth. Take special care around settings, especially those containing claws to avoid catching or damaging your jewellery.
